The Freshwater Trust is always evolving.

Our tactics for protecting and restoring ecosystems have changed with years of experience and new insight. Our presence has grown and expertise has expanded.

We’ve come to understand that fixing freshwater on a meaningful timeline and at scale cannot happen without employing science, technology, economics, philanthropy and policy. All of these elements are a part of our work.

To provide a forum where our team of capable, innovative disrupters can give voice to the solutions we’re building and to the world of water at large, we’ve launched Streamside: A space of insight and commentary on how people, business, data and technology shape and impact the world of water.

In the coming weeks, you’ll hear from scientists, lawyers, and economists about what we’re doing to change the course of conservation and restoration. And understanding this field is bigger than us, we’ll also weigh in on new research and news happening outside The Freshwater Trust. Other respected leaders will be recruited to write for Streamside as well.

The most critical part of this new community however is you. We welcome your thoughts and ideas in the comment section below any Streamside story.

Kicking off the series is Kaola Swanson, associate conservation director with The Freshwater Trust. She explains how we’ve come to use data-driven solutions to protect and restore freshwater ecosystems. She also walks through one of our most critical tools: BasinScout. Later in the year, Science Director Julia Bond will explain machine learning and our project managers will explain what it takes to recruit and work with landowners on the ground for the benefit of rivers in the West.
