
John Day Basin
- The John Day River is one of the most significant undammed stream systems in the West and has one of the strongest native stocks of summer steelhead in the Northwest.
- The basin includes the Painted Hills, John Day Fossil Beds National Monument and Strawberry Mountain Wilderness of the Blue Mountains.
- The dominate economies are based on natural resources: forest products, farming, ranching, recreation and mining.
- Nearly 40 percent of the basin is public land.
