Volunteer

Volunteers are the backbone of our education and restoration efforts. Whether spending the day planting trees or teaching students about the salmon life cycle,The Freshwater Trust’s volunteer opportunities allow you to connect to the natural world and contribute to freshwater health.

Restoration Volunteers

The Freshwater Trust engages volunteers throughout the year to help plant trees, build fences and remove invasive species. These volunteer opportunities can include floating a river and overnight camping – offering volunteers a truly unique experience. We have ongoing opportunities for volunteers to engage in restoration and habitat improvements. For more information, contact Hans VanDerSchaaf.

Education Volunteers

Help teach Oregon’s youth about salmon and watersheds with The Freshwater Trust's Salmon Watch program, an award-winning education program that centers on streamside field trips to view spawning salmon. Adult volunteers attend a free half-day training workshop in August or September to learn more about water quality, aquatic insects, riparian zones and working with kids. Then, in the fall, they’ll become “o-fish-ial” volunteer instructors, giving them the chance to share their knowledge with middle and high school students on a weekday field trip.

Field season: Begins Mid-September and runs through Mid-November
Time commitment: Field trips usually begin around 9 a.m. and conclude between 1 and 2 p.m. Travel time to field trip sites averages 1¼ hours.
