The Freshwater Trust supports No Oregon Child Left Inside
In 2009, Oregon legislators passed the No Oregon Child Left Inside Act (NOCLI). NOCLI will establish an environmental literacy program to create lasting connections between our students and the natural world by using the environment as an integrating context for learning – all with no negative budget impact. NOCLI will position Oregon to receive pending grant monies through federal No Child Left Inside legislation that could amount to $1 million per year. With a menu of programs and resources that are adaptable, replicable, and readily accessible to teachers and classrooms across the state, The Freshwater Trust is uniquely suited to assist school districts in integrating meaningful and innovative place-based learning experiences into classrooms. The Freshwater Trust has assumed a leadership role in NOCLI, both shepherding the legislation and coordinating the coalition (which now includes 86 organizations representing more than 93,000 Oregonians), and is serving as a member of the Task Force responsible for creating the state environmental literacy plan.
