The Habitat Restoration Solution
With habitat loss being the single more important factor contributing to salmon declines, The Freshwater Trust actively restores aquatic habitat in Oregon through its Habitat Restoration program. From placing logs instream to create river complexity and planting trees to stabilize streambanks and provide shade to lower water temperature, we advance science-based, ecologically-sound restoration projects to restore habitat function critical to salmon productivity.
Beyond achieving success with on-the-ground project results, we also strive to build replicable models for collaborative, community-based restoration. By engaging local entities, purchasing local materials and hiring local contractors, The Freshwater Trust provides the ingredients for a local “green” restoration-based economy.
