The Flow Restoration Solution
It is not an easy task to reallocate our scarce water resources in a way that accommodates agriculture, industry and the resource. In fact, historically, agriculture and conservation have not seen eye to eye. The Freshwater Trust sees it differently. We know that we cannot trade agriculture for conservation. Instead, we must support agricultural producers while enhancing conservations values. We must use workable, practical solutions. And we have a history of doing so.
By working hand-in-hand with landowners on a voluntary basis, The Freshwater Trust identifies ways to keep lands working and rivers flowing. These include: compensation for temporary instream leases and permanent transfers, tax breaks for permanent donations, replacement feed for lost production and funding for irrigation efficiencies. In all cases, we make it a priority to ensure the protection of a landowner’s water rights.
